Re: Where are all the Spitfires?
I've had both the Blues and the Spitfires. IMO, both are great sounding speakers, but unfortunately for you it'll boil down to subjective opinion. I (personally) prefer the sound of the Blues, but that shouldn't be a shock as I basically designed them (with help from Meniscus). The Blues are a more ...

Re: Blues TM first ever build!
Hey Matt, I finished the second round of Blues! They sound really good. And I definitely improved my craftsmanship this time around. I used veneers to finish them (it was my first time using veneers but overall I am happy with how they turned out.) Now I am finally gonna build that subwoofer to go ...

Re: The Axpona 2016 experience
Nice set of pictures and comments- it's been a while since I've been to a good show like this- used to get out to RMAF on a regular basis, but it's been about 5 years! Thanks, it really was a lot of fun. I've been to CES a couple times, numerous DIY shows, and Axpona a few times, but never RMAF. I'...

Re: Do it yourself - or not?
It seems like a fairly even handed article for someone not involved in this activity- there are pluses and minuses, and there is also a big difference between someone who does it for the creative process versus someone that just want's to wind up with one nice set of speakers in their living room o...

A huge thanks to the guys at Meniscus for the venue and lunch!! Also thanks to everyone that made the trip out, was a such a good time!! Great to see everyone and listen to all the amazing speakers!! The Reclamations
This was a really fun project. The original plan was to build these for the Iron Driver competition, and we did, but we couldn't get the SB19 tweeter to get along with the TB W5 woofers. There was a nasty dip between (IIRC) about 2khz and 3khz that wouldn't go away, which made them sound really thin...

Meniscus Audio Get Together, Sept 19... Head Count!!
Just a heads up for anyone that might be interested in DIY speakers, but maybe you'd like to hear some before you make that purchase, or you have something you'd like to show off. Saturday, September 19 Meniscus Audio is hosting an informal get together. We need to limit attendance to around 20, if ...

Re: Blues TM first ever build!
Something else to consider... With this Danibos Bluetooth receiver, and Tidal's music app on my Samsung S5 phone, I have near CD quality from my armchair and I can control the volume and track selection with my phone. You can use whatever music app you want (like Pandora, Slacker, etc) for free but ...

Re: Blues TM first ever build!
Depends on what kind of networking you want to do. Most of the receivers that'll have the subwoofer output as well as a highpass filter for your Blues will be home theater receivers. For example, research this Pioneer SC-07 receiver. This will do everything you want as far as sound and connect-abili...

Re: Blues TM first ever build!
At this point I am really just looking for another project to do/trying to learn more about how everything works. At this point I am more concerned with practicing/learning than having a perfectly optimized system. This I completely understand. Just a warning, speaker building is an insatiable dise...

Re: Blues TM first ever build!
It's always something... not having a subwoofer output on that Yamaha is going to make this a little tricky. I don't think that receiver has a preamp outputs either, but it looks like it does have what's basically a "Tape 2" output, and I think you can use those for your subwoofer's plate ...
