Plate amplifier for TruAudio TC-12 Subwoofer

Hi all,

I purchased what appears to be a nice, well made, subwoofer. It has a 12" carbon fiber woofer and a 12" carbon fiber passive radiator. The cabinet seems nice and this was the top of the line sub when new at TruAudio. It allegedly listed for $1500.00 but was sold only by installers.

The amp is fried. It was like that when I bought it. I have been looking for a replacement plate amplifier but they are expensive, to me. In addition, I have not yet found one that will match the cutout.

The outside dimensions of the original plate are: 9.75" x 9.75", The Cutout is 8'x8". I realize that I may need to modify the cabinet. The original plate amp was stated to be 500W. On the amp itself it says: DB Series, DB2504, DB5004, DB7504. In addition, it says: 250W 4 Ohm, 500W 6 Ohm, 750W 8 Ohm.

I am thinking of trying to make this a passive sub if I cannot find a plate amp for a reasonable price. I am not a DIY for speakers, but I do make furniture for fun and have a lot of tools. If I do this, how could I connect this to my B&K surround receiver? Can I use speaker wire from the Receiver to the sub and use the internal crossover of the receiver? The amplifier is rated at 150 Wpc into 8 Ohms and the power from B&K's is very strong. In other words, the reputation is that their specs are accurate or understated.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
