Series RL (Lp Filter and Resistor

Post by Jeff S. » Sun Jun 21, 2015 5:35 am

Dave, I was working on a crossover and notice that in the Series RL before crossover circuit doesn't allow me to but in the resistor value. Any chance you could look into this?

Hi Jeff,

I was puzzled when I first read this because I've had the resistors in the circuits from early on. (clip)

Edit:

Looking back at this, I was thinking in terms of adding a series resistor in the schematic. However, the inductor has a DCR that is part of the element. I have not added a series resistor in the circuit because it's generally better to have the lowest impedance possible for most inductors. If you need to add resistance for some reason, increase the DCR value as appropriate. When compete, subtract that inductor DCR from the total and you'll have the resistance value needed for a resistor to add in series with the inductor when you construct the circuit.
