Friday Sept 16 will be an informal GTG at Meniscus Audio's place, we'll listen to some DIY speakers and hopefully demo some different equipment.

Great event. I really enjoyed this one. Thanks to Meniscus for having, and to everyone that showed up. I liked the relaxed, no hurry pace. Great time, can't wait till next year.

I and Matt B. also had a really great time! It was closer and a half-hour less to drive for this Hoosier. Thanks to Matt S, Mark, Chad, Craig, and Joel for hosting/gear (and to Ken for the Mtn Dew!)
I will also say there wasn't a bad speaker in the bunch!
I really enjoyed Bill's preliminary Nanotech entry, with the PVC external port and bass trap and the compact design was a hoot to listen to! (W5 RBM/2"Tectonic BMR/MDT39)
Matt's 3-ways are really smooth from top to bottom. N26MG/18W Rev 4 ohm/SB29 woofer. (not in my photobucket.)
The SB 8" aluminum 2-way with the waveguided Wavecor tweeter I felt weren't awful at all. I have heard that tweeter get really honky in the past, and this was less so. If you pushed them a tad, then they kinda made your hair stand up due to that bump in response, but it wasn't unlistenable. I really liked the woofers!
CraigK brought a TMWW (also not in my photobucket) Xd by Paul Carmody, using a 25-1719/W4-1757SB/2x W5-1138 in a really svelte little tower. There was a small peak in between the woofers and mid I felt, but they were really unobjectionable; a really nice little design.
Kerry (Navyguy) brought his Iron-driver winning 3-ways. This is the 2nd time I've heard them, and I think with a closer room boundary, or a track with immense bass makes these shine. The Low-Q of the woofer kinda makes it sound a touch lean without much bottom end. Overall it's nicely balanced though. He also had a small pair of RS100 2-ways with an intermittent tweeter issue, but they sounded fine when it worked.
musicformatt brought the last incarnation of my Synchaeta design. He opted to use the I-cores for the woofer coils this time around, which I unwound to value and dipped in polyurethane myself. He claims they have the best midrange of the variants he's built. They played first, so sorry if some of you missed them.
There were a couple active designs there this time, both in Meniscus transfer-function matched Mandolins, and Ani101's MiniDSP 2-way towers. The Mandolins sounded fine to me, nothing objectionable. I'd really like to do a side-by-side of the active/passive now that the active is dialed in. Ani's were just fantastic! The old JMLab 'buyout' woofers from Zalytron, and the original Sinar Baja tweeters. With the MiniDSP and his admitted "I really didn't know what I was doing" process, I felt they were one of the best at the show. Good work, Ani!
DanP brought the Hurricanes and Baronettes again, and I felt they sounded best at this event than the others I've heard them. The open-back quasi-LAT Huricanes really loaded that room well. Dynamic and clean unless really cranked.
Dave Stombaugh brought his Paul Carmody Hitmakers and his little yellow Fender phone-blaster. I still like the look of the 'Fender', and the Hitmakers are pretty nice.
Ken Rhodes brought his Jeff B Quarks build, remarking if he had known how good they would sound, he likely would have gone a few more miles in terms of finish and parts used.
Chuck/Mike brought the Victors again. I know they sounded better in the Spring, with a bit of a 'reserved' quality on the mids and highs this time around. Just seemed like something was holding them back a bit.
It seems lots of attendees really enjoyed my coil demo, and the Cecropia Supremes. I'll let them exclaim their virtues.
A good time was had by all!
