My lords and ladies,
I bet you get this all the time but I need help picking a project...
I'm looking at building a pair of Hifi bookshelf speaker for my living room. The room is about 15 by 20 feet with standard 8-foot ceilings with a mix of hardwood and carpet. We don't listen to anything too loud but the boss (Wife) doesn't want the speakers to fair from the wall as it would take up to much room. Also no floor standing speakers... (I pick my battles and this is not a big deal) and I'm not really interested in having a Sub.
Price $750 for the pair would be nice.
Music only (real mix) Electronic, Pop, Classical, Jazz, etc.
Intermediate woodworking and electrical skill (But I have access to some very good woodworking & Electrical people)
Kits I am looking at:
Classix II = good price, I bet I couldn't tell the difference really, good bass for the type of music I listen to.
Continuum II = great for 75% of what I listen to and I bet I would be happy I built them in a few years. Only thinking lack of Bass may be an issue.
Carrera Full Kit = Way overkill but the best of both worlds. Good long-term speaker. (close to a wall would this not work?)
I appreciate your feedback and thank you for hosting such a great site.
Happy New year,
Luke Kaufman

Re: Help picking a project
The Carrera is meant to be a free-standing (on a stand) speaker, and is not meant for near-wall placement. The Continuum II is the only one in your list that applies well to near-wall placement.
