Small room 2 way with decent efficiency

Post by Sean51 » Thu Aug 19, 2021 7:49 pm

Hi, I am new to the forum and also new to DIY speaker building, so please bear with me. My listening room is 11x13 and pretty heavily treated with carpet and curtains. I am looking for my first build in a 2-way due to the dimensions of my room. I'd like something that has somewhere around 87 db and up with a fairly benign load. I have read that with higher efficiency you get limited bass, but in my room I'd think 45-50 hertz would be just fine. I like a full sound with high resolution and clarity and a lot of detail and air around the treble, without sibilance or a hard etched sound. I know there are trade offs there, and that being said, I do like details where I can hear into the recording.

For perspective, I have never liked any B&W's except for maybe the original Nautilus. I don't like sizzle and boom and lacking in midrange bloom. Another speaker I tried to like was Reference 3A De Capo's but they just came off too shouty and bright. My speakers now are Odyssey Epiphony IV's but although they sound good, they are just too tough of a load (and I have never really felt that emotional attachment in certain recordings through them). I loved my Chapman T7's and Symphonic Line Legato's, but those are just too big for my new room.

My budget is about $1,500 max for complete build.

Thanks for your help all of your expertise is much appreciated.
