Help with flush mount please.

Post by Fwiler » Wed Sep 04, 2013 8:26 pm

Hello,

New to the forum here. I've bought two kits here at Meniscus and have been very happy with the service. The kit I'm working on now is the Swope MTM.

So I've measured for the tweeter and the gasket to flush mount. Measured twice and cut once. Unfortunately I measured incorrectly twice. What I didn't account for is the gasket compressing and the thickness of the wood veneer, so the tweeter sits too low.

Is there any recommendation for filling in the depth about an 1/8". I've been thinking about wood filler but not sure if that would work well on mdf.

Thanks,

Dustin

You can use another ring of HDF in the mount for the tweeter of 1/8" thickness, or use a piece of craft-foam and not torque down so hard when you install it. This will give a more rigid substrate that won't compress so easily.

Thanks. I didn't think about using a thicker gasket or adding another. I know not to do that with plumbing or an oil filter :D

Dustin,

For small mistakes like that, we mix 5 minute epoxy with MDF dust to fill voids and then re cut.

The extra gasket is faster. :D
