Offical Thread - Loudspeaker Design Seminar in Kokomo

Post by Jeff B. » Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:02 pm

Hello Everyone,

This will be the official thread for all discussion on the upcoming Loudspeaker Design Seminar in Kokomo - hosted by Jeff Bagby

I have decided to move forward with my plans for this seminar. I made the decision in the beginning to host it myself, here in Kokomo, which was logistically much more convenient for me in case I needed to make any special modifications or arrangements along the way, especially the day of the seminar. It also gave me some control over how things proceed, and if it is a complete failure, I get to take all of the blame.

Also, before presenting the idea on any forums I asked the guys at Meniscus if they would like to take part in this. I have worked very closely with Meniscus for several years now and we have developed a strong relationship, plus anyone who has attended the InDIYana gatherings has seen their presence and hospitality. (That is why I have moved this to the Meniscus forum). Meniscus will be providing the speaker drivers and test cabinet for the seminar, and you will get a special treat here because we will be working with a brand new, very high-end midwoofer that no one has seen before. I can’t share much more than that at this time, but I think you will like it.

For those who have asked, after initially posting this idea I was contacted by Parts Express. They offered to host the event, and make their resources available, and were strong supporters of this idea. However, I still had a strong desire to do this the first time close to home rather than in Springboro, and I had already asked Meniscus about participating. So my plan now, is that if the first seminar goes well and there is enough interest, then there may be a second one at some yet to be determined date, probably in mid-2014, hosted by Parts Express. This one is all still tentative though.

OK, on with the details -

I visited several hotels in my area and considered their facility, ease of accessibility, and proximity to restaurants, and have chosen the Courtyard by Marriot on the South end of Kokomo.

The address is:
Courtyard by Marriot
411 Kentucky Drive
Kokomo, IN 46902
(765) 453-0800

The hotel is just off of US 31 (actually soon to be US 931, which may or may not show up that way on mapping software. You will need to watch for “931 Kokomo” when coming North from Indy on US 31).

After checking dates that were available everything looks great for Saturday, December 14th. I know this is only one month away, and is right before Christmas, so I want to get everyone’s input. However, I have reserved the following:

The meeting room for Friday, 12/13/13 beginning around 5:00 PM for meet and greet and maybe a little speaker listening.

The meeting room for Saturday, 12/14/13 beginning the Seminar at 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM (we need to be all out by 5:00 PM)

I have arranged a discount rate on rooms for anyone coming in for this that needs a room. The normal rate is $114+tax, for our event the rate will be $84+tax, which includes the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.

If you are planning to come in on Friday evening and stay the night in the motel please let me know so I can give the Hotel an estimate on how many rooms to set aside. If you call to set up a room, ask for Lisa King, and tell her this is for the “Bagby Seminar”.

If you want to stay somewhere else there is a Holiday Inn Express and a Super 8 in the same area very close by, but there are no discounts arranged at those places.

So, if you believe you can make it, please send an email to me at jeffb1836@yahoo.com and I will place you on the tentative list. Due to the size of the room I will have to limit the number attendees to 30 people (I think). There will be a small registration fee for attendees of $30 per person to help me cover expenses.

My goal with this seminar is to give you a functional overview of the design tools and software I use, to answer as many questions as possible, and provide you with my methodologies, techniques, and “secrets”, so that you can design and build a successful and satisfying speaker as efficiently as possible. Crap. Yet another reason I need to move to the Midwest. I will point out though, that it was 90 degrees and sunny today here in AZ, and 80's forecast for the rest of the week.

So There. :P

I'll be in WI that weekend w/ my inlaws  .

How will this be presented? If you did this in such a fashion that you could put it on a dvd, I'd positively be interested. I can't even express how much I'd LOVE to make it to this, but I like being married a little bit more.

At this time I do not plan to have this recorded. Maybe a future one will be.
Stay married, it's more important than this.

Jeff--I just now found this listing and would like to come. I cannot tell if I am on call that weekend, I cannot find the schedule this evening, so make me tentative if there is room.

Jeff,

I sent you an email. I am going to try to make it. If this works out it will be the SOCAL DIY on the 7th, your seminar on the 14th and home to Colorado on the 16th for a few weeks... This is forming up to be a crazy December and a month-long Christmas for me!

Hi
I would like to attend your seminar. I live in Westfield. No need for a hotel.

Jeff

I was on call Dec. 14 but have managed to clear it, so I am free to attend. I don't know yet if I will come in the night before and need a hotel room or can drive it in the morning. Do you know the start time? I don't recall if that was on the itinerary.
